23rd Annual charity golf tourney to benefit local nonprofits

Arvest Bank in North Central Arkansas is accepting letters of request from area non-profit organizations that would like to be considered for the 2019 Arvest Bank Charity of the Year program. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 12.

The Charity of the Year program was created to lend financial support to local non-profit organizations through the annual Arvest Bank Charity Golf Tournament that is in its 23rd year.

Every year, a selection committee of Arvest Bank associates selects up to three local charities that share 100 percent of the proceeds from the golf tournament. Non-profit organizations in Baxter, Boone and Marion Counties are encouraged to apply for consideration as a charity of the year.

“Nonprofit organizations in our area provide much-needed resources and services throughout the year and they often are faced with financial challenges,” said David McBee, executive vice president and sales manager of Arvest Bank in North Central Arkansas. “When our communities pull together to help supplement that funding, it helps ensure those services will continue for our friends and neighbors. This tournament has garnered a great deal of participation for more than two decades, and we’re hoping to continue that success again this year.”

Final selection as a charity of the year is based on past, present and future financial needs, along with other criteria. To qualify, the charity must be designated as an IRS 501(c)(3) organization and must submit a letter to the committee explaining why their organization should be selected.

Watkins said the tournament has contributed more than $201,400 to local non-profit organizations since this tournament began.

Letters of application to be considered as a 2019 Charity of the Year should be mailed to: Arvest Bank Charity Committee, Attn: Cindy Sutterfield, P.O. Box 325, Yellville, AR, 72687, or they may be emailed to csutterfield@arvest.com.

The Arvest Bank Charity Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, Aug. 24 at Big Creek Golf and Country Club in Mountain Home. Sponsorship opportunities for the event are available at all levels. Call 870-449-7150 for more information.

Arvest Bank has promoted Mike Willard to president and CEO of the bank’s North Central Arkansas and West Plains, Missouri region, effective July 1.

Willard currently is the president and CEO of Arvest Bank’s Prairie Grove market in Northwest Arkansas. During his 15-year career with Arvest Bank, Willard also served as consumer loan officer, commercial loan officer and community bank president in Mountain Home, Ark. from 2010-2013.

He currently is a member of the Arkansas Economics Advisory Board and has served on the board of directors for the Baxter Regional Medical Center Foundation, Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce, Mountain Home Education Foundation, Mountain Home Rotary Club and Performing Arts Council for Arkansas State University Mountain Home, in addition to leadership roles with other organizations.

“Mike’s previous work and compassion for the North Central Arkansas community make his return to this area a perfect fit,” said Don Walker, regional executive for Arvest Bank. “He was very invested in the surrounding communities and in serving our customers and local businesses, so I’m sure he’s looking forward to this opportunity.”

Willard earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla. He is a graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Banking.

Willard succeeds Tom Dame who recently accepted an executive leadership position in Arvest’s Springfield, Mo. market.

“Tom has been an exceptional leader in this market for many years and our customers and associates have benefitted from his experience and leadership,” said Walker. “We are fortunate to be able to utilize Tom’s experience in our Springfield market and name a successor who also had expertise in North Central Arkansas. We thank Tom for his great work here and wish him continued success in our sister territory.”

Dame’s history with Arvest began in 2000 when he joined the bank at Yellville. He has served as president and CEO of the North Central Arkansas market since 2014.
